Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Everything business owners ask me about ranking on Google - from the basics to the questions that only come up after you have been burned once. See the SEO service →

What is SEO?
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the work of making your website the best possible answer for what your customers search, so Google ranks it higher without you paying per click. It covers technical health, content, authority and user experience.
Is SEO still worth it in 2026?
Yes. Google still handles the vast majority of searches, and its AI features pull from the same index that ranks normal results. If your site is not crawlable, clear and trusted, you will not show up in the blue links, the Map Pack or the AI answer.
How long does SEO take to show results?
Most businesses see meaningful movement in three to six months. Local gains often come faster. Competitive national terms take longer. SEO compounds - the work you do now keeps paying for years.
How much does SEO cost?
It depends on how competitive your market is and how far behind you are. I build custom plans rather than fixed packages. Be wary of rock-bottom pricing - real SEO takes real hours, and cheap work usually has to be undone later.
What is the difference between SEO and paid ads?
Ads stop the moment you stop paying. SEO builds an asset you own that keeps producing leads. Ads are rented traffic; SEO is owned traffic. The two work best together.
Can you guarantee a number-one ranking?
No honest SEO can, and Google itself says so. What I guarantee is a proven process, transparent reporting and accountability for real leads - not a specific position I do not control.
What are the four pillars of SEO?
Technical health (can Google crawl you), on-page relevance (do you answer the search), authority (why Google should trust you) and user experience (do visitors get what they came for). Every legitimate tactic falls into one of those.
What is technical SEO?
Technical SEO makes sure search engines can find, crawl, render and index your pages efficiently: site speed, mobile-friendliness, clean structure, HTTPS, sitemaps, redirects and no accidental blocks. It is the plumbing.
What is on-page SEO?
On-page SEO is everything on the page itself: title tags, headings, content depth, internal links, image alt text and matching the searcher's intent. It tells Google what the page is about and who it serves.
What is off-page SEO?
Off-page SEO is everything that happens away from your site that builds trust: backlinks, brand mentions, reviews, citations and social signals. It is how Google decides you are more credible than the competition.
What is search intent and why does it matter?
Search intent is the job behind the search. 'What is a heat pump' wants an explanation; 'heat pump installer near me' wants to call someone. Matching intent is the single biggest on-page factor, and most sites get it wrong.
How do I choose the right keywords?
Start with what your best customers actually type when they are ready to buy, then check what Google already ranks for those terms. Prioritize purchase intent over raw volume. Ranking for terms that never buy is a vanity metric.
Does keyword stuffing still work?
No. It has not worked in over a decade and can hurt you. Write for the human first and use your terms naturally. Google understands topics and synonyms now. See the SEO service →
How many pages does my website need?
One focused page for every service you offer and every area you serve, each genuinely useful. Four excellent pages beat twenty thin ones. Thin pages can drag the whole site down. See the SEO service →
Does content length matter for ranking?
Depth matters, not word count. Thorough content answers more questions and earns more links. Never pad. A tight 900-word page that fully answers a narrow question beats a rambling 3,000-word one. See the SEO service →
What is E-E-A-T?
Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness - the qualities Google's quality guidelines reward. Real authors, real credentials, first-hand experience, honest case studies and visible business details all strengthen it. See the SEO service →
What are backlinks and do they still matter?
Backlinks are links from other sites to yours. They still matter as votes of confidence, but quality beats quantity. Ten links from respected relevant sites outperform a thousand junk directory links, which can get you penalized. See the SEO service →
Should I buy backlinks?
No. Paid link schemes violate Google's policies and are increasingly easy to detect. Earn links with useful content, real community involvement, industry directories that matter and genuine expertise. See the SEO service →
What is domain authority?
A third-party score estimating how strong a site's link profile is. Google does not use it. It is a rough proxy, useful for comparison, not a target to chase. See the SEO service →
What is a title tag?
The clickable headline in search results and the biggest on-page ranking lever. Lead with the primary topic, keep it around 60 characters and write it to earn the click.
What is a meta description?
The short summary under your title in search results. It is not a direct ranking factor, but it is your ad copy - a compelling one lifts click-through rate, and clicks matter.
What is Core Web Vitals?
Google's measurement of real-world page experience: how fast the main content loads, how quickly the page responds to interaction and how much the layout shifts. Slow, jumpy pages lose rankings and conversions.
How fast does my website need to be?
Fast enough that a customer on a phone never waits. Aim for main content loading in under 2.5 seconds. The usual culprits are oversized images, bloated page builders and cheap hosting. See the SEO service →
Does mobile matter for SEO?
Google indexes the mobile version of your site, so it is the version being judged. If your mobile experience is stripped down or clumsy, that is what Google sees. Test on a real phone. See the SEO service →
What is schema markup?
Structured data that tells search engines exactly what your content is - a business, a service, an article, a FAQ. It does not directly boost rankings but makes you eligible for rich results and helps AI systems understand you.
What is an XML sitemap?
A file listing the pages you want indexed. It helps Google discover your pages, especially new ones. Submit it in Google Search Console and keep it current.
What is robots.txt?
A file that tells crawlers what they may and may not access. A stray rule in it can silently block money pages or AI crawlers. I check it on every audit. See the SEO service →
What is Google Search Console?
Google's free tool showing how your site performs in search: impressions, clicks, indexing status, errors and Core Web Vitals. If you only use one SEO tool, use this one.
What is a canonical tag?
A tag telling Google which version of a page is the original when duplicates exist. It prevents your own pages from competing with each other. See the SEO service →
What is duplicate content?
The same or nearly the same content on multiple URLs. It splits your authority and confuses Google about which page to rank. Consolidate or canonicalize. See the SEO service →
What is internal linking?
Linking your own pages to each other with descriptive anchor text. It spreads authority, helps Google understand your site structure and keeps visitors moving toward a conversion. See the SEO service →
What is anchor text?
The clickable words in a link. Descriptive anchor text ('sewer line repair in Naperville') helps Google understand the target page far better than 'click here.' See the SEO service →
What is a 301 redirect?
A permanent redirect from an old URL to a new one. It preserves most of the old page's authority. Use it whenever you move or delete a page. See the SEO service →
What is a 404 error and does it hurt SEO?
A page-not-found error. A few are normal. Many broken internal links or important pages returning 404 waste crawl budget and frustrate visitors. Fix or redirect them. See the SEO service →
What is crawl budget?
The amount of attention Google gives your site per visit. Small sites rarely hit limits, but broken links, redirect chains and thousands of junk URLs waste it. See the SEO service →
What is a Google algorithm update?
A change to how Google ranks pages. Sites built on fundamentals rarely get hurt. Sites built on tricks do. If an update hurts you, it usually exposed a weakness that was already there.
What is a Google penalty?
A manual action or algorithmic demotion for violating Google's guidelines - usually spammy links, thin content or deceptive practices. Recovery is possible but slow. See the SEO service →
What is local SEO?
SEO for businesses serving a specific area. It centers on your Google Business Profile, local content, reviews and consistent business information. For most local businesses it is the highest-return channel.
What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO gets you ranked in search results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) gets you cited inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews. GEO sits on top of SEO - it does not replace it.
Does AI-generated content hurt rankings?
Google judges quality and usefulness, not how content was produced. Mass-produced unedited AI content performs poorly. AI used as a drafting tool with real expertise and editing can work fine. See the SEO service →
Do social media posts help SEO?
Not directly. Social does not pass ranking authority, but it drives visibility, brand searches and sometimes links, all of which help indirectly.
Should I have a blog?
If it answers real customer questions, yes. A blog that publishes useful, specific content builds authority and captures searches your service pages cannot. A blog of filler hurts more than it helps. See the SEO service →
How often should I update my website?
Update pages when the information changes and refresh important pages at least yearly. Refreshing a page that already ranks is often the highest-return hour you can spend.
Can I do SEO myself?
You can handle the basics: claiming your Google Business Profile, fixing obvious technical issues, writing useful content and asking for reviews. Competitive markets and authority building are where experience pays off.
What SEO mistakes do you see most?
Chasing tactics before the foundation is fixed, targeting keywords that never buy, ignoring the Google Business Profile, publishing thin content at volume, never updating what already ranks, having no conversion path and quitting at month three.
How do I know if my SEO is working?
Track leads and calls from organic search first, then rankings for terms that convert, Google Business Profile actions, organic clicks in Search Console and your technical health. Rankings without leads are a vanity metric.
What should I fix first?
Technical health so Google can crawl and render you, then your most important pages so they are clearly the best answer, then your Google Business Profile if you are local. Those three unlock everything else.
What happens if I stop doing SEO?
Rankings do not vanish overnight, but they erode as competitors keep working and content goes stale. The businesses that lose are almost always the ones that stopped right before it took off.
Do you work with businesses outside Chicagoland?
Yes. I am based in Bolingbrook and serve every community within 25 miles plus Chicago, but I also work with clients nationwide and globally. Search has no borders.
What makes your SEO different from other agencies?
You work with me directly, not an account manager. I have done this since 2003, I focus on leads instead of vanity rankings, I report transparently, and I will tell you when you do not need something you are asking for.

Google Business Profile (GBP)

The Map Pack is where local phone calls come from. These are the questions I get about Google Business Profile every single week. See the GBP service →

What is a Google Business Profile?
Your free business listing on Google that appears in Maps and the Map Pack. It shows your name, category, reviews, hours, photos and action buttons. For local businesses it is often more important than the website.
What is the Google Map Pack?
The block of three local business listings, shown with a map, at the top of local search results. It captures the majority of clicks, calls and direction requests for local searches.
How does Google rank the Map Pack?
On three factors: relevance (how well you match the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher) and prominence (how well-known and trusted you are). Everything else feeds into those three. See the Google Business Profile service →
What is the number-one Google Business Profile ranking factor?
Your primary category. It is the main relevance filter Google applies. If it does not match the search, you are often not even in the running. I have moved businesses several positions by fixing nothing else. See the Google Business Profile service →
How do I choose my primary category?
Pick the most specific category describing the service that makes you the most money. Search your money keyword and see what category the current 3-pack winners use. Match it.
How many categories should I add?
Your primary plus a secondary category for every legitimate service you provide. Do not stuff loosely related ones - irrelevant categories dilute relevance and can trigger quality issues. See the Google Business Profile service →
How many reviews do I need to rank?
There is no magic number. A steady flow of recent reviews beats a big pile of old ones. Aim for a 4.5 or higher rating with several new reviews every month. See the Google Business Profile service →
Do reviews affect ranking?
Yes, heavily. Recency, velocity, rating and the words customers use all matter. A review that mentions your service and city helps relevance far more than 'great job.' See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I ask customers for reviews?
Yes, and you should, as long as you do not offer anything in exchange. Ask at the moment of peak satisfaction, make it one tap with a direct link, and follow up once. See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Incentivized reviews violate Google's policies. Reviews can be removed and profiles can be flagged. It is never worth it.
Should I respond to reviews?
Every one, within a couple of days. A professional, non-defensive response to a negative review often matters more to readers than the complaint itself, and Google reads response activity as engagement. See the Google Business Profile service →
How do I handle a fake review?
Flag it through your profile, respond calmly and factually so readers see your side, and document evidence if you need to escalate. Do not argue publicly.
Can I remove a bad review?
Only if it violates Google's policies - spam, conflict of interest, off-topic or offensive content. Honest negative reviews stay. Respond well and bury them with fresh positive ones. See the Google Business Profile service →
Why does a competitor with fewer reviews outrank me?
Usually a better-matched primary category, closer proximity to the searcher, or more consistent business information across the web. The Map Pack is a data-accuracy contest as much as a popularity contest.
What is NAP consistency?
Your Name, Address and Phone number must be identical everywhere: your website, Google, Bing, Apple Maps, Yelp, directories and social profiles. Inconsistencies weaken trust and rankings.
What are citations?
Mentions of your business name, address and phone on other websites - directories, chambers, associations, industry sites. Consistent citations reinforce prominence. See the Google Business Profile service →
How complete should my profile be?
Every field. Business description, every service with its own description, products if relevant, attributes, hours, holiday hours, photos, Q&A, posts, booking and messaging. Most competitors use less than half of it. See the Google Business Profile service →
Do photos help my ranking?
Real photos of your team, work, vehicles and location build trust and drive engagement, which supports ranking. Add them regularly, not once. Stock photos do not help. See the Google Business Profile service →
What are Google Posts and should I use them?
Short updates that appear on your profile. They signal an active business, occupy more space in your listing and give people a reason to engage. Post at least weekly.
What is the Q&A section?
A public question-and-answer area on your profile. Seed the common questions and answer them yourself. Unanswered questions get answered by strangers, sometimes incorrectly.
Should I list my services on the profile?
Yes, individually, each with its own description. It is one of the highest-value and most-skipped fields, and it directly feeds relevance. See the Google Business Profile service →
What is a service-area business?
A business that travels to customers instead of serving them at a storefront - contractors, mobile services, home services. It hides the address and defines the areas you cover. See the Google Business Profile service →
Should I show my address or hide it?
Show it if customers come to you. Hide it (service-area business) if you go to them. Showing a home address for a mobile business against the guidelines is a common suspension trigger. See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I rank in a city where I have no office?
It is hard because Google anchors you to your registered location. You can improve visibility with substantive service-area pages, reviews mentioning that area and real local presence. Never fake an address. See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I add keywords to my business name?
No. Adding 'Best Chicago Plumbing' to a name that is not legally yours violates the guidelines, is a common suspension trigger and gets reported by competitors constantly. See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I use a virtual office or a P.O. box?
No. Google requires a real, staffed location where you meet customers, or a service-area setup. Virtual offices and mailboxes get profiles suspended.
Can I have more than one Google Business Profile?
One per physical location, each with its own phone, hours and manager. Duplicate profiles for the same location split your signals and get suspended.
What is a duplicate listing and how do I fix it?
A second profile for the same business, often from an old address or a former owner. Find it, claim it if needed and request a merge or removal. Duplicates confuse Google and split reviews.
Why did my profile get suspended?
Common causes: keyword-stuffed business name, virtual office or unstaffed address, home address listed against category rules, duplicate or fake listings, or recent risky edits. Reinstatement is possible but slow.
What are behavioral signals?
How people interact with your listing: calls, direction requests, website taps, photo views and bookings. Listings that earn more actions tend to hold and improve their positions.
What is the local finder?
The full list of local results you see after clicking 'More places' under the Map Pack. Ranking here matters too, but the 3-pack is where most of the clicks go.
Does my website affect my Map Pack ranking?
Yes, indirectly but meaningfully. Local content, matching NAP details and LocalBusiness schema reinforce relevance, and the site is where visitors convert. See the Google Business Profile service →
Should I embed a Google Map on my website?
Yes, on your contact page, with your exact address. It reinforces location and helps customers. See the Google Business Profile service →
What is Google Business Profile Insights?
Built-in reporting showing how people found you, what they searched, and how many called, requested directions or visited your site. Watch it monthly.
How do I verify my profile?
Google offers postcard, phone, email, video or instant verification depending on the business. Video verification is increasingly common. Follow the prompts exactly and do not edit the profile mid-process.
How long does verification take?
Instant to about a week for most methods. Video reviews can take longer. Editing core details during verification restarts the process. See the Google Business Profile service →
Can I change my business name or address later?
Yes, but major changes can trigger re-verification and, done carelessly, suspension. Change one thing at a time and keep documentation ready. See the Google Business Profile service →
What are attributes?
Toggles describing your business - accessibility, payment types, appointment options, identity attributes. Many map directly to search filters, so set every one that applies. See the Google Business Profile service →
Should I enable messaging?
If you can respond quickly. Messaging drives the actions Google measures, but slow responses hurt more than no messaging. See the Google Business Profile service →
Should I add a booking link?
Yes if you take appointments. It adds a direct conversion path from the listing without visiting your website.
What is the difference between Google Business Profile and Google Maps?
Your profile is the listing you control. Maps is where it appears, alongside the Map Pack in regular search. Optimizing the profile is how you rank in Maps.
How often should I update my profile?
Weekly posts, new photos monthly, review responses within days, and an immediate update for any change in hours, services or contact details. Stale profiles read as businesses winding down.
What is a geo-grid rank tracker?
A tool that checks your Map Pack position from many points across your service area. Local rankings vary block by block, so a grid shows exactly where your visibility fades.
Why do I see different rankings than my customers?
Google personalizes local results by the searcher's exact location, device and history. Checking from your office tells you almost nothing about what someone across town sees. See the Google Business Profile service →
How long until I see Map Pack movement?
Fixing a wrong category or completing a neglected profile can move you in two to six weeks. Building the review velocity and prominence needed for competitive terms takes three to six months.
What is the 'Justification' text under a listing?
The snippet Google shows explaining why a listing matched - 'Their website mentions...' or a review quote. It comes from your site, reviews or services, which is why keywords in those places matter.
Do Google Business Profile ads help?
Local Services Ads and Maps ads can supplement, but they stop when the budget does. A well-optimized free profile keeps working.
Can multi-location businesses share one website?
Yes, but each location needs its own page with unique content, its own NAP and its own schema. Do not duplicate one page with a swapped city name. See the Google Business Profile service →
What does your Google Business Profile service include?
A full audit against the businesses currently holding your 3-pack spots, category correction, every field completed, services and photos built out, Q&A seeded, a repeatable review system, citation cleanup and monthly geo-grid tracking.
How do I get started with Google Business Profile optimization?
Book a free strategy call. I will compare your profile field by field against the businesses ranking above you and show you exactly what is missing.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Your customers stopped clicking and started asking. These are the questions I get about showing up inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. See the GEO service →

What is GEO?
Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of getting your business cited, recommended and named inside AI-generated answers from engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO gets you ranked in a list of results. GEO gets you named inside the answer itself. GEO sits on top of SEO - a page that cannot be crawled or trusted will not be cited either.
How is GEO different from AEO?
AEO makes you the direct answer (featured snippets, voice). GEO makes you a cited, recommended source in generative AI responses. They overlap heavily and you want both.
Why does GEO matter now?
A growing share of buyers ask ChatGPT or Gemini before opening Google, and an AI answer only cites a handful of sources - often two to seven. If you are not one of them, you are invisible for that query.
Does ChatGPT actually recommend businesses?
Yes. Ask it for the best plumber, dentist or attorney in a city and it names specific businesses. Being on that shortlist functions as a recommendation, not just a listing. See the GEO service →
Where do AI engines get their answers?
Two ways: live retrieval (searching an index and citing what it finds) and training memory (patterns absorbed about which brands are discussed and how). You influence both by being consistently present and clear across the web. See the GEO service →
Do all AI engines use the same sources?
No. ChatGPT has historically leaned on Bing's index, Google's AI Overviews and Gemini use Google's, and Perplexity blends its own crawling with others. The same question returns different sources per engine.
Does ranking on Google mean I show up in ChatGPT?
Not necessarily. ChatGPT retrieval has run largely through Bing, so being indexed and competitive in Bing matters more than most marketers realize. See the GEO service →
Should I care about Bing?
For GEO, yes. Verify Bing Webmaster Tools, make sure your site is fully indexed there and treat it as a real channel. It is often less competitive than Google.
What is an AI Overview?
Google's AI-generated summary that appears above traditional results for many searches, with citations to the sources it used. Being cited there puts you above position one.
How do I get cited by ChatGPT?
Front-load concise answers, use question-shaped headings, make passages self-contained, add real specifics, build third-party mentions, strengthen E-E-A-T and make sure your robots.txt does not block OpenAI's crawlers. See the GEO service →
How do I get cited by Gemini?
Gemini draws on Google's index, so strong Google SEO is the price of entry. Beyond that it favors E-E-A-T signals: real authors, credentials, first-hand experience and consistent business facts.
How do I get cited by Perplexity?
Perplexity is heavily citation-driven and favors current, specific, well-sourced content. It is a useful testing ground - if you get cited there consistently, your structure is in good shape for the others.
What does 'front-load the answer' mean?
State the answer in the first sentence or two under each heading, in roughly 40 to 60 words of plain declarative language. Engines lift self-contained passages. Bury the answer under three paragraphs of setup and you will not get pulled.
Why do question-shaped headings help?
They mirror how people actually ask, so the engine can match the question and lift the answer directly underneath. It is the single easiest structural change most sites can make.
What is a self-contained passage?
A paragraph that makes sense lifted out of context. Avoid 'as mentioned above' and vague pronouns; restate the subject so an extracted paragraph stands on its own. See the GEO service →
Does specificity matter for GEO?
Enormously. Numbers, dates, named methods, prices and concrete steps get cited far more than vague claims. 'Most clients see movement in three to six months' is quotable. 'Results vary' is not.
What is entity authority?
How confidently machines can identify your business as a distinct, credible entity. It comes from consistent facts about you across the web, third-party corroboration and a clear presence everywhere. See the GEO service →
Do off-site mentions matter for AI?
Heavily. LLMs weigh third-party corroboration. Genuine coverage, directories, reviews, podcast appearances and consistent mentions across credible sites make you a source worth naming. See the GEO service →
Can I fake mentions to get cited?
No. Manufactured mentions and link schemes violate Google's policies and are increasingly detectable. Build the real thing. See the GEO service →
What is E-E-A-T and how does it affect GEO?
Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trust. Gemini in particular leans on these. Real authorship, credentials, first-hand experience and visible business details make you trustworthy enough to cite.
Why does consistency matter?
If your services, service area or business details differ between your site, your Google profile and third-party listings, you look unreliable to a system trying to state facts confidently. See the GEO service →
Does freshness matter?
Yes. Engines favor current information, especially for anything that changes. Keep cornerstone pages updated, dates accurate and statistics fresh.
Which AI crawlers should I allow?
GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI), Google-Extended (Gemini), PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and Applebot-Extended. If the engines cannot reach you, they cannot cite you.
What is the difference between GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot?
GPTBot is OpenAI's crawler for training. OAI-SearchBot is for live search and retrieval in ChatGPT. If you want to be cited in ChatGPT answers, OAI-SearchBot must be allowed.
What is Google-Extended?
A robots.txt control that governs whether your content can be used for Gemini and Google's AI training, separate from normal search crawling. Blocking it removes you from Gemini's reach.
Could my security plugin be blocking AI crawlers?
Yes, and it is the sneaky version of the problem. Firewalls, CDNs and security plugins sometimes rate-limit or block these bots silently. Check server-level rules, not just robots.txt. See the GEO service →
Does schema markup help GEO?
It does not force a citation, but it removes ambiguity about what your content is and who published it. FAQPage, Article, LocalBusiness, Service and Person markup make your facts easier to extract and trust.
Does JavaScript-heavy content hurt GEO?
It can. If a passage is hard for a parser to extract cleanly, it is less likely to be quoted. Real headings, real lists, real tables and text in the HTML matter more than they used to. See the GEO service →
How does GEO work for local businesses?
When someone asks 'who is the best roofer in my area,' the engine builds a shortlist from businesses it can verify: complete Google Business Profile, consistent details, healthy reviews, substantive location pages and third-party presence.
Does my Google Business Profile affect AI recommendations?
Directly. It is the factual backbone engines cross-reference. An incomplete or inconsistent profile makes you a risky source to name.
Do reviews affect AI recommendations?
Yes. They are both a trust signal and a source of the descriptive language engines summarize. Recent, specific reviews help you get described accurately.
How do I measure AI visibility?
Run a fixed list of 20 to 50 realistic customer questions across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity on a schedule and record whether you are mentioned, cited or absent. Track share of voice against named competitors.
Can I see AI referral traffic in analytics?
Yes. Filter referrals from chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai and similar. Volume is usually modest but conversion quality tends to be strong.
Does AI send real traffic?
Referral volume is still smaller than Google's, but it is high-intent and growing. The bigger value is influence: being named functions as a recommendation even when the user never clicks. See the GEO service →
What is share of voice in AI?
How often you appear versus named competitors for the same set of prompts. That relative number is the real scoreboard, not raw mentions. See the GEO service →
How long does GEO take?
Structural changes like front-loaded answers and schema can influence retrieval-based citations within weeks. Building the brand authority that gets you named consistently takes months. It compounds like SEO.
Can I optimize for AI without a website?
Not effectively. Engines need a crawlable, trustworthy source to cite. Your Google Business Profile helps, but a real site with depth is the anchor.
Does Google say GEO is different from SEO?
Google's guidance is that optimizing for its AI features is still SEO. The fundamentals are the same; GEO is the structure and authority layer on top.
What are the biggest GEO mistakes?
Burying the answer, vague unquotable writing, blocking the crawlers, no authorship or credentials, inconsistent facts across the web, thin content at volume, ignoring Bing and treating GEO as separate from SEO.
Does content written 'for AI' sound robotic?
It should not. Clear, specific, front-loaded writing is also what humans prefer. If it reads like it was written for machines, it was written badly. See the GEO service →
Should I create an llms.txt file?
It is an emerging convention for describing your site to AI systems. It costs nothing, and I include one. Treat it as a bonus, not a substitute for clear on-page content.
Can AI engines get my business details wrong?
Yes, especially when your facts are inconsistent across the web. Fix the sources - your site, your profile, your listings - and the answers correct over time. See the GEO service →
What if an AI engine recommends my competitor instead of me?
That is the starting point for most clients. We find out why (authority, structure, consistency or crawler access), fix it, and track until you are the one being named. See the GEO service →
Does video help GEO?
Yes. YouTube content is heavily favored in AI answers, and a clear video with a good transcript gives engines another source to cite.
Does GEO work for B2B and national companies?
Yes. The same principles apply: quotable, specific content, entity authority and consistency. The prompts are different ('best CRM for dental practices') but the mechanics are identical. See the GEO service →
How does GEO fit with my existing SEO?
It is layered on top. We keep the SEO foundation, restructure content so it is quotable, add schema, verify crawler access and build the off-site corroboration. Nothing is thrown away.
What does your GEO service include?
An AI visibility baseline across the major engines, crawler-access audit, content restructuring for citation, schema, entity and consistency cleanup, authority building and monthly prompt tracking with screenshots.
Do you show proof that AI mentions clients?
Yes. Real queries, real AI answers, my clients named in the response - screenshots and tracked over time. I do not ask you to take it on faith.
How do I get started with GEO?
Book a free strategy call. I will run your real customer questions across the major AI engines and show you exactly who gets named instead of you.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

Every platform is an answer engine now. When the question gets asked, somebody's business is the answer. These are the questions about making sure it is yours. See the AEO service →

What is AEO?
Answer Engine Optimization is the practice of becoming the direct answer to a question - the featured snippet, the People Also Ask result, the voice assistant response, the fact an AI states outright.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO earns you a spot in the list. AEO earns you the answer box above the list. AEO is built on SEO fundamentals but adds specific structure so machines can extract your answer cleanly.
How is AEO different from GEO?
AEO targets direct answers: snippets, voice, People Also Ask. GEO targets being cited and recommended inside generative AI responses. In practice you optimize for both with the same content.
What is a featured snippet?
The highlighted answer box at the top of Google results that pulls a passage, list or table directly from a page. It sits above position one and gets a large share of clicks.
What is 'position zero'?
Another name for the featured snippet - the result shown above the first organic listing.
What is People Also Ask?
The expandable box of related questions in Google results. Each one pulls an answer from a page. Ranking in several of them multiplies your visibility for one search.
What are the types of featured snippets?
Paragraph (a definition or direct answer), list (steps or items), table (comparisons or data) and video. Match the format to the question.
How do I win a featured snippet?
Target a question people ask, put the question in a heading, answer it immediately in 40 to 60 words, then expand. Use lists for steps and tables for comparisons. Rank on page one first - snippets are pulled from top results.
Do I need to rank number one to get the snippet?
No. Snippets are pulled from pages ranking roughly in the top ten. A well-structured page at position five can take the snippet from position one.
Why did I lose a featured snippet?
Usually a competitor answered more directly, your page became stale, or Google changed the format it prefers for that query. Refresh the answer and match the format.
What is the ideal answer length?
Around 40 to 60 words for a paragraph snippet. Long enough to be complete, short enough to be lifted whole.
Should the answer come before or after the explanation?
Before. Answer first, explain second. Machines and impatient humans both want the answer at the top.
What is voice search optimization?
Making your content the answer a voice assistant reads aloud. Assistants read one answer, so it is winner-take-all. Conversational question phrasing and concise answers win.
Does voice search still matter?
Yes, especially for local queries ('find a dentist near me open now'). Voice pulls from the same structures as featured snippets and Google Business Profile.
How do I optimize for 'near me' voice searches?
A complete Google Business Profile with accurate hours, the right category and strong reviews. Voice assistants lean heavily on that data for local answers.
What is FAQ schema?
Structured data that pairs each question with its answer explicitly, so search engines and AI know exactly what they are reading. It makes your Q&A trivially extractable.
Do FAQ rich results still show in Google?
Google restricted FAQ rich results in 2023 to mostly government and health sites. The schema still helps AI systems and answer engines parse your content, so I keep using it.
What is HowTo schema?
Markup for step-by-step instructions. Its rich result was also restricted, but it still clarifies structure for machines. See the AEO service →
Does schema guarantee a snippet?
No. Structure and answer quality win snippets. Schema removes ambiguity and improves eligibility for rich results.
What is a knowledge panel?
The information box Google shows about an entity - a business, person or brand - usually on the right side of desktop results. It is fed by Google's knowledge graph, your Google Business Profile and consistent facts across the web.
How do I get a knowledge panel?
Establish yourself as a clear entity: consistent name and facts everywhere, a claimed Google Business Profile, Organization or Person schema, and third-party sources that describe you the same way.
What is the knowledge graph?
Google's database of entities and the relationships between them. Being a recognized entity in it improves how confidently Google and its AI features describe you. See the AEO service →
How do I find the questions my customers ask?
Look at People Also Ask boxes for your main terms, Google's autocomplete, your own sales calls and inbox, review content and forums. Write the questions the way people actually ask them.
Should every page have an FAQ section?
Every page where real questions exist - service pages, location pages and articles. Not filler questions. Real ones with direct answers.
How many questions should an FAQ have?
As many as customers genuinely ask, answered well. Six strong questions beat twenty padded ones. This page is the exception - it is built to be a complete knowledge center.
Should I write answers in first person?
For a personal brand or small business, yes. It adds experience and trust signals. 'I have seen this fail when...' is more citable than a generic passive sentence. See the AEO service →
Do headings matter for AEO?
They are the primary signal. A question in an H2 or H3 with the answer directly beneath is the pattern engines look for.
Does table of contents help?
Yes. It clarifies structure, creates jump links Google can show in results and helps machines map the page. See the AEO service →
Do lists and tables help?
Lists win step-based snippets. Tables win comparison snippets. Use real HTML lists and tables, not images or styled paragraphs.
Does page speed affect AEO?
Indirectly. Snippets come from pages that rank, and speed affects ranking. Slow pages also get abandoned before the answer loads.
Does AEO work for local businesses?
Very well. 'How much does a furnace repair cost in Naperville' and 'do I need a permit for a fence in Plainfield' are exactly the questions local businesses can own.
Does AEO work for e-commerce?
Yes. Product comparison tables, 'which X is best for Y' questions, sizing guides and care instructions all win answer placements.
Does AEO work for B2B?
Yes. Definitions, process explanations, cost breakdowns and comparison content in B2B niches are often less competitive than consumer terms. See the AEO service →
Can I be the answer for a competitor's brand?
You can rank for comparison queries ('X vs Y') with honest, specific content, but do not misrepresent competitors. See the AEO service →
How do I measure AEO success?
Track featured snippet ownership and People Also Ask appearances for your target questions, plus the traffic and leads those pages produce. Search Console shows impressions at the top position.
How long does AEO take?
If you already rank on page one, restructuring a page can win a snippet within weeks. If you do not rank yet, you build the SEO foundation first.
What are the biggest AEO mistakes?
Burying the answer, answering a different question than the heading asks, vague wording, no lists or tables where they belong, ignoring People Also Ask and treating AEO as separate from SEO.
Should I answer questions I do not want to rank for?
If your customers ask them, yes. Helpful answers build trust and authority even when they do not drive direct leads.
Does AEO help with AI Overviews?
Yes. AI Overviews pull from the same clear, direct, well-structured passages that win snippets. AEO structure is GEO groundwork.
Is AEO the same as content marketing?
AEO is more precise. Content marketing publishes broadly; AEO engineers specific pages to be the extractable answer for specific questions.
Should I remove old FAQ content?
Refresh it. Old answers with outdated facts hurt trust. Update the answer and the date.
How do I handle questions with no single answer?
Give the direct honest answer first ('it depends on X and Y'), then the ranges and the factors. Specificity still wins even when the answer is conditional.
Do images help with answer results?
Google sometimes pairs a snippet with an image from another page. Clear, well-labeled images on your page increase the chance yours is used.
What is a zero-click search?
A search where the user gets their answer without clicking any result. AEO makes sure your brand is the one delivering that answer, which builds recognition even without a click.
Is there a downside to being the answer?
Some users get what they need without visiting. The upside - brand visibility, trust and the clicks from people who need more - outweighs it in every case I have measured. See the AEO service →
Does AEO replace my service pages?
No. Service pages convert. AEO content brings people in and points them to the service pages. Both are needed.
How does AEO tie into E-E-A-T?
Answers from named, credentialed authors with first-hand experience are trusted more and cited more. Anonymous answers are easy to skip.
What does your AEO service include?
Question research, page restructuring for extraction, FAQ and article builds, schema markup, People Also Ask targeting, voice and local answer optimization, and monthly tracking of every answer placement you own.
Can you do AEO and GEO together?
That is how I run it. Same content, structured to be both extractable and citable, tracked across snippets and AI engines at once.
How do I get started with AEO?
Book a free strategy call. I will show you the questions your customers are asking, who currently owns the answers, and how we take them.

Still have a AEO question? Ask me directly - I will give you a straight answer, not a sales pitch.

Marketing Consulting Services

For businesses that already have a marketing team but need a proven strategy and hands-on direction from someone who has done it since 2003. See the Consulting service →

What is marketing consulting?
Hands-on strategic guidance for your existing team: I audit what you are doing, build the plan, train your people on SEO, GEO, AEO and Google Maps, and stay involved so it actually gets executed.
Who is consulting for?
Businesses with an in-house marketer or team who want expert direction without outsourcing everything, agencies that want to add search services, and owners who want to understand what they are paying for. See the Consulting service →
How is consulting different from your done-for-you services?
With done-for-you, I execute. With consulting, I direct and train while your team executes. Same strategy, same accountability, different hands on the keyboard.
Can you train my marketing team?
Yes. I teach the exact systems I use for clients: technical audits, keyword and intent research, Google Business Profile optimization, content structure for AI, review systems and reporting.
Can you train me, the owner?
Yes. Many owners want to understand search well enough to make good decisions and hold vendors accountable. I teach at whatever depth you want. See the Consulting service →
What does a consulting engagement look like?
A full audit and strategy first, then a working cadence - typically weekly or biweekly sessions - with priorities, training and review of what was executed. You get direct access to me between sessions.
Do you offer one-time strategy sessions?
Yes. A single deep-dive session works well when you need a plan, a second opinion or a diagnosis of why results stalled.
Do you offer ongoing retainers?
Yes. Ongoing consulting keeps the strategy current, holds the team accountable and adapts as search changes. Most clients start with a defined project and continue.
Can you audit what my current agency is doing?
Yes. I will tell you honestly whether the work is sound, what is missing and whether you are getting what you pay for. I am not selling against them - I am reading the work. See the Consulting service →
Can you help me choose an agency?
Yes. I will help you write the brief, evaluate proposals, ask the questions that expose weak vendors and set up the reporting so you can measure them.
What is a marketing audit?
A structured review of your visibility across Google, Maps and AI search, your website's technical health, your content, your competitors and your conversion path, ending in a prioritized plan.
Can you build a strategy for a new business?
Yes. New businesses benefit most from getting the foundation right from day one instead of undoing mistakes later. See the Consulting service →
Do you consult for agencies?
Yes. Agencies bring me in to add or sharpen search services, train their teams and handle complex client situations they do not want to learn on the job. See the Consulting service →
Do you do white-label consulting?
Yes. I can operate behind your brand for your clients under an agreement. See the Consulting service →
Can you help with a rebrand or new website launch?
Yes. Launches and rebrands are where rankings get lost through missed redirects and rushed decisions. I plan the migration so you keep what you have built.
Can you consult on AI search strategy specifically?
Yes. Getting cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews is one of the most requested areas right now, and it is where most in-house teams have the least experience. See the Consulting service →
Can you consult on Google Business Profile for multi-location businesses?
Yes. Multi-location profile strategy, location page architecture, review systems per location and consolidated reporting are a core specialty.
Do you consult for franchises?
Yes. Franchise systems need consistent brand standards with local flexibility, and I build the playbook both sides can follow. See the Consulting service →
Can you help set up reporting?
Yes. I set up Google Search Console, Analytics, call tracking and rank tracking so leads are measured by source and nobody argues about what is working. See the Consulting service →
Can you help with content strategy?
Yes. Which questions to answer, which pages to build, how to structure them for search and AI, and how to keep them fresh. See the Consulting service →
Can you help with review strategy?
Yes. A repeatable review system - when to ask, how to ask, how to respond - is one of the fastest wins for a local business. See the Consulting service →
Can you help with technical SEO?
Yes. I diagnose crawl, indexing, speed and structure problems and either fix them or hand your developer a precise list. See the Consulting service →
Do you work with my web developer?
Yes. I work alongside developers regularly, giving clear technical direction and checking the work. See the Consulting service →
Can you help me prioritize a limited budget?
That is most of consulting. I sequence work so the fastest returns come first and money is not spent on things that do not move leads.
What industries do you consult for?
Home services, healthcare and dental, legal, real estate, professional services, retail, hospitality, B2B and more. The fundamentals transfer; the search behavior differs, and that is what I map. See the Consulting service →
Do you sign NDAs?
Do you consult remotely?
Yes. Most consulting runs over video with shared screens. In-person sessions are available in the Chicago area.
How much does consulting cost?
It depends on scope and cadence. One-time sessions, defined projects and monthly retainers are all available. Book a strategy call and I will recommend the right format.
How is consulting billed?
Per session, per project or monthly retainer, agreed up front. No surprises. See the Consulting service →
What do I need to prepare?
Access to your analytics, Search Console and Google Business Profile, a list of your goals and a candid picture of what has been tried. The more honest the picture, the faster we move.
How quickly can we start?
Usually within a week of the strategy call.
Will you actually do any of the work?
If you want me to, yes - consulting engagements often include me handling the technical or high-skill pieces while your team runs the rest.
What if my team does not follow the plan?
I hold them accountable in our sessions and flag it to you. Strategy without execution is just a document, and I will not pretend otherwise.
Can you help me understand my competitors?
Yes. I show you exactly what the businesses outranking you are doing across Google, Maps and AI, and where they are beatable. See the Consulting service →
Can you help with local SEO for a service-area business?
Yes. Service-area businesses face unique challenges with proximity, and I have a specific playbook for them. See the Consulting service →
Can you help me recover from a Google penalty or ranking drop?
Yes. I diagnose the cause - an update, a technical change, a link problem, a migration mistake - and build the recovery plan.
Can you help with YouTube strategy?
Yes. Video is a growing part of search and AI answers, and I fold it into the overall plan.
Can you help with paid ads?
I focus on organic search, Maps and AI. I will tell you where paid fits and how to measure it against organic, and I can refer a specialist. See the Consulting service →
Do you provide documentation and playbooks?
Yes. Every engagement produces written playbooks your team keeps, so the knowledge stays even if people change. See the Consulting service →
Can you present to my leadership or board?
Yes. I present strategy, results and forecasts in plain language for decision-makers.
What makes your consulting different?
23+ years of hands-on work, not theory. I still run campaigns every day, so the advice reflects what is working now, not last year. See the Consulting service →
Do you guarantee results?
I guarantee a sound plan, honest advice and full transparency. Results depend on execution, market and budget, and I will tell you the realistic range up front.
Can consulting turn into a done-for-you engagement?
Yes. Some clients start with consulting and hand me the execution once they see the plan.
How do I know if I need consulting or done-for-you?
If you have people with time and skill who need direction, consulting. If you do not, done-for-you. If you are not sure, the strategy call sorts it out.
Do you offer group training or workshops?
Yes. Team workshops on SEO, Google Business Profile and AI search are available in person or remotely.
Do you offer ongoing support after training?
Yes. Follow-up sessions and retainer access are available so questions get answered as they come up. See the Consulting service →
Can you help me set realistic goals?
Yes. I benchmark your market and tell you what is achievable in what timeframe, which prevents both underinvestment and disappointment. See the Consulting service →
Is consulting available nationwide?
Yes. I consult for businesses across the United States and internationally. See the Consulting service →
How do I get started with consulting?
Book a free strategy call. We will talk through your situation, and I will recommend the format that fits - or tell you if you do not need it.
What is the first thing you look at in a new engagement?
Whether the foundation is sound: crawlability, Google Business Profile, the money pages and the conversion path. Everything else is built on that.

Website Design Services

Rankings that do not turn into calls are a vanity metric. These are the questions about building a site that ranks and converts. See the Website Design service →

Do I need a new website to rank?
Not always. If your current site is fast, crawlable and converts reasonably, I would rather improve it than replace it. If it is slow, not mobile-friendly or fights every change, a rebuild is usually cheaper long term.
What makes a website good for SEO?
Fast load times, clean code, mobile-first layout, logical structure, one strong page per service and area, schema markup, clear internal linking and content that matches search intent.
What makes a website convert?
A clear next step on every page, contact details that are impossible to miss, real proof (reviews, photos, credentials), fast pages and a layout that works on a phone.
What platform do you build on?
WordPress for most businesses because it is flexible, well-supported and easy for you to update. I also work with other platforms when there is a good reason. See the Website Design service →
Is WordPress good for SEO?
Yes, when built properly. A bloated theme with dozens of plugins is not. I build lean, fast WordPress sites without the baggage. See the Website Design service →
What about Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy builders?
They can work for very simple needs but limit speed, structure and technical control. Most businesses that are serious about ranking outgrow them. See the Website Design service →
What about Webflow?
A capable platform for design-led sites. It works for SEO when configured well, but it is less flexible than WordPress for content-heavy local strategies and harder for most owners to update.
How long does a website build take?
Typically four to eight weeks for a business site, depending on page count, content readiness and revisions. Rushed builds create ranking problems.
How much does a website cost?
It depends on scope. I offer both a paid-in-full build and a rental program with a lower upfront cost. Book a strategy call and I will quote your actual needs.
What is the website rental program?
A lower upfront cost with a monthly fee that covers the site, hosting, maintenance and updates. It is popular with businesses that want a professional site without the large initial outlay.
Do I own my website?
With the paid-in-full option, yes, completely. With the rental program, you have full use while the agreement is active, with a purchase option. See the Website Design service →
Will you write the content?
Yes. Search-driven, conversion-focused content for every page, written from your expertise and my understanding of what ranks.
Can I use my existing content?
Yes, if it is good. I usually restructure it for search intent and add what is missing. See the Website Design service →
Do you provide photography?
I can use your photos, direct a photographer or source imagery. Real photos of your team and work convert far better than stock. See the Website Design service →
Will my site be mobile-friendly?
Every site is built mobile-first. Most local searches happen on a phone, and Google indexes the mobile version.
How fast will my site be?
Built to load main content in under 2.5 seconds on a normal connection, with compressed images, minimal scripts and quality hosting. See the Website Design service →
Do you handle hosting?
Yes. Fast, secure, managed hosting is included in the rental program and available with the paid-in-full option. See the Website Design service →
Do you handle the domain?
Yes. I can register, transfer or manage your domain, and I make sure you retain ownership. See the Website Design service →
Will my site be secure?
HTTPS, regular updates, security hardening and backups are standard. See the Website Design service →
Do you provide maintenance?
Yes. Updates, backups, security monitoring and small edits are included in rental and available as a plan for owned sites. See the Website Design service →
Can I update the site myself?
Yes. WordPress makes it easy, and I show you how. Or send changes to me. See the Website Design service →
Will I lose my rankings when we rebuild?
Not if it is done right. I map every old URL to its new home with 301 redirects, preserve the content that ranks and check indexing after launch. This is where most rebuilds go wrong. See the Website Design service →
What is a website migration?
Moving a site to a new design, platform or domain while preserving rankings. Redirect mapping, content preservation and post-launch monitoring are the critical pieces.
Will my new site include schema markup?
Yes. LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Article and breadcrumb schema where they apply. See the Website Design service →
Will the site be accessible?
Built to accessibility best practices: proper headings, alt text, contrast, keyboard navigation. It is right and it is good for search. See the Website Design service →
Do you build location pages?
Yes. Substantive, unique pages for each area you serve - not templates with a swapped city name, which can hurt you.
Do you build service pages?
One focused page per service, structured for search intent with a clear conversion path.
Can you add a blog?
Yes, with a structure ready for articles that rank and get cited by AI. See the Website Design service →
Can you integrate booking or scheduling?
Yes. Booking tools, contact forms, click-to-call, chat and CRM integrations are all standard requests. See the Website Design service →
Can you integrate call tracking?
Yes. Call tracking that shows which pages and sources produce phone calls, without breaking your NAP consistency.
Can you connect Google Analytics and Search Console?
Yes. Both are set up and verified at launch so measurement starts on day one. See the Website Design service →
Do you build e-commerce sites?
Yes, typically on WooCommerce. Product pages, categories, checkout and the SEO structure around them.
Do you design logos and branding?
I can direct branding as part of a build or work with your existing brand. Most projects focus on the site itself.
Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. My portfolio shows live sites across many industries. Ask on the strategy call and I will point you to the most relevant ones.
Will my site look like everyone else's?
No. Each site is designed for your brand and customers. Templates that look like every competitor do not build trust.
How many revisions do I get?
Enough to get it right. We review at defined stages so changes happen before they get expensive. See the Website Design service →
What do you need from me to start?
Your logo and brand assets, photos, service list, service areas, contact details, any existing content, and access to your domain and current site.
Can you redesign just part of my site?
Yes. A homepage refresh, new service pages or a conversion overhaul can be done without a full rebuild.
Do you offer landing pages for ads?
Yes. Focused pages built to convert paid traffic, measured separately from organic.
Will the site work with my CRM?
Yes. Form submissions and calls can route to most CRMs and email tools. See the Website Design service →
Do you provide training after launch?
Yes. A walkthrough of how to update pages, add posts and read the reports.
What happens after launch?
Indexing check, redirect verification, speed test, analytics validation, then the ongoing SEO work begins. Launch is the start, not the finish.
Can you fix my current site instead?
Often, yes. If the foundation is sound, targeted fixes to speed, structure and content are the better investment. I will tell you honestly which path makes sense. See the Website Design service →
Why is my current site not generating leads?
Usually one or more of: it is slow, it does not rank, it does not match what visitors searched, there is no clear next step, or there is no proof you are legitimate. I diagnose which. See the Website Design service →
Do you design for conversion tracking?
Yes. Every call-to-action is measurable so you know which pages and buttons produce leads.
Do you build sites for franchises or multi-location businesses?
Yes, with a location page architecture that ranks each location without duplicate content.
Do you build sites for businesses outside Illinois?
Yes. I build for clients nationwide and internationally. See the Website Design service →
How do I get started on a website?
Book a free strategy call. I will review your current site, tell you whether to fix or rebuild, and quote it.
Will my site be ready for AI search?
Yes. Clear structure, front-loaded answers, schema and an llms.txt file are built in so AI engines can read and cite you. See the Website Design service →
What is the biggest website mistake you see?
Beautiful sites with no search foundation and no conversion path. They look great in the portfolio and generate nothing. See the Website Design service →

GBP Reinstatement Services

A suspended Google Business Profile means your phone stops ringing. These are the questions from owners who just got the notice. See the GBP Reinstatement service →

What is a Google Business Profile suspension?
Google has removed your profile from Maps and search, usually for a guideline violation or suspected one. Your listing disappears and calls drop immediately.
Why was my profile suspended?
Common triggers: keyword-stuffed business name, a virtual office or unstaffed address, a home address for a category that does not allow it, duplicate or fake listings, a recent risky edit, or being reported by a competitor.
What is the difference between a hard and soft suspension?
A soft suspension removes your ability to manage the listing but it may still show. A hard suspension removes the listing entirely from Maps and search.
What is a disabled profile?
Effectively the same as a hard suspension: the profile is not visible and cannot be managed until reinstated.
Can a suspended profile be reinstated?
Usually, yes, if the business is legitimate and the underlying issue is corrected. The process requires the right documentation and a precise appeal.
How long does reinstatement take?
Anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Clean, well-documented appeals move faster. Repeated bad appeals slow everything down.
Can I just create a new profile instead?
No. Creating a new profile while suspended violates the guidelines, usually gets caught, and can get both profiles removed permanently.
What documents does Google ask for?
Typically a business license or registration, a utility bill or lease showing the address, and proof of signage or vehicles. Requirements vary by category and country. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What if my business does not have a storefront?
Service-area businesses can be reinstated, but the profile must be configured correctly with the address hidden and legitimate documentation for the registered location.
What if I work from home?
Home-based businesses are allowed for many categories. The address must be hidden if customers do not visit, and the category must permit home-based operation. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What if I used a virtual office?
You will need to switch to a legitimate address or a properly configured service-area setup. Virtual offices do not get reinstated as-is.
What if I added keywords to my business name?
Remove them and use your legal, real-world name exactly as it appears on signage and documents. That alone resolves many suspensions. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What if a competitor reported me?
If your profile is compliant, the appeal succeeds. If the report exposed a real violation, fix it first. Either way, the appeal must address the facts.
Will I lose my reviews?
Reviews usually return with a successful reinstatement of the same profile. Creating a new profile loses them, which is another reason not to.
Will I lose my rankings?
Rankings typically recover after reinstatement, though there can be a short lag. The longer a profile stays suspended, the more ground competitors gain.
Can I edit my profile while it is suspended?
Only to correct the issue causing the suspension. Random edits during an appeal make it worse.
What should I do first when I get suspended?
Do not panic, do not create a new listing, and do not fire off a vague appeal. Identify the cause, fix it, gather documentation and then submit one precise appeal.
How many times can I appeal?
There is no fixed limit, but each failed appeal makes the next one harder. Getting it right the first time matters.
What happens if the appeal is rejected?
You can request further review with additional evidence. This is where experience matters - knowing what Google actually needs to see. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Do you handle the appeal for me?
Yes. I identify the cause, correct the profile, assemble the documentation, write the appeal and manage the follow-up until you are back.
How much does reinstatement cost?
A flat fee based on complexity. Book a strategy call and I will assess your case and quote it.
Do you guarantee reinstatement?
No one can guarantee Google's decision. I can tell you honestly after reviewing your case whether it is winnable and what the risks are. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What if my business is genuinely not eligible?
I will tell you, and I will tell you what would make it eligible. Sometimes that means a real address or a category change. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Can you prevent future suspensions?
Yes. After reinstatement, I bring the profile fully into compliance and set up practices that keep it there.
What edits are risky?
Changing the business name, address or primary category, adding many categories at once, or making several changes in a short period can all trigger review. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Is my profile suspended if it just disappeared from search?
Not necessarily. Check your Business Profile dashboard for a suspension notice. Listings also drop from view for ranking reasons, which is a different problem.
What is a pending verification suspension?
A suspension triggered during or right after verification, often because details changed mid-process. Consistency during verification prevents it. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Can multiple locations get suspended at once?
Yes, especially in franchise or multi-location accounts when one violation triggers a review of all profiles under the same account.
What is an account-level suspension?
Google has suspended the Google account managing the profiles, affecting everything under it. It requires a different appeal path.
Can a suspended profile still get reviews?
No. Customers cannot find or review a suspended listing.
Does a suspension affect my website?
Not directly, but the loss of Map Pack visibility usually drops calls and traffic significantly.
How do I know if the reinstatement worked?
Your profile reappears in Maps and search and you regain management access. I confirm with live checks.
How common are suspensions?
Very. Google has tightened enforcement, and many legitimate businesses get caught by rules they did not know existed. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What are the most common mistakes owners make after suspension?
Creating a new listing, submitting multiple vague appeals, editing the profile repeatedly, and arguing with Google support instead of providing evidence.
Can you help with a suspended Google Ads or Local Services account?
My focus is Business Profile reinstatement. I can advise on how the issues interact and refer specialists for ads accounts.
Can I contact Google support directly?
You can, but support cannot override a suspension. The appeal process with proper documentation is the path.
What is the Business Redressal form?
A form for reporting other businesses that violate the guidelines. It is how competitors report each other, and how you can report fake listings taking your spots.
Can you get a competitor's fake listing removed?
If it genuinely violates the guidelines, yes, through proper reporting with evidence. I do not file frivolous reports.
What if my profile was suspended years ago?
Old suspensions can still be appealed if the business is legitimate and the issues are corrected. Documentation may be harder to assemble.
Can you reinstate a profile that someone else owns?
You need legitimate ownership or management access. I can help you regain access if it is your business. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Is it faster to hire someone?
Usually, because the first appeal is the one most likely to succeed and experience tells you exactly what to include.
What do you need from me?
Your business documents, access to the profile, a candid history of the listing and any recent changes. Honesty about what happened is essential.
What happens after reinstatement?
I optimize the profile properly - correct category, complete fields, review system - so you recover the lost ground fast.
Do you serve businesses outside Chicagoland for reinstatement?
Yes. Reinstatement is handled remotely for businesses anywhere in the United States and internationally.
Can a suspension happen with no notice?
Yes. Many owners discover it when the phone stops ringing. Regular monitoring catches it early. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Do you monitor profiles for suspension risk?
Yes, as part of ongoing Google Business Profile management.
What is a 'needs action' status?
A warning that Google wants something corrected or verified before it escalates. Address it immediately. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
Can changing my category cause suspension?
A single sensible change usually does not. Frequent or inconsistent category changes can trigger review. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
How do I get started with reinstatement?
Book a call and describe what happened. I will assess the cause and tell you whether it is winnable and what it takes. See the GBP Reinstatement service →
What is the single best way to avoid suspension?
Use your real business name, a real address configured correctly for your business type, accurate categories, and make changes deliberately and one at a time. See the GBP Reinstatement service →

YouTube SEO

YouTube is the second-largest search engine and one of the most-cited sources in AI answers. These are the questions about using video to get found. See the YouTube SEO service →

What is YouTube SEO?
Optimizing your videos and channel so they rank in YouTube search, appear in Google results and get recommended by YouTube's algorithm and AI engines.
Why should a local business be on YouTube?
Video builds trust faster than text, ranks in Google results, gets cited in AI answers and keeps working for years. A ten-minute video answering a common customer question can outperform a page.
Does YouTube help my Google rankings?
Yes. Videos appear in Google search results, embedded videos increase time on page, and a YouTube channel adds another authoritative property linking to your site.
Does YouTube help with AI search?
Yes. YouTube content is heavily favored in AI answers, and a clear video with a good transcript gives ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews another source to cite.
What should my first videos be about?
The questions customers ask you most. Cost, process, how to choose, what to expect, common mistakes. Answer them plainly on camera. See the YouTube SEO service →
Do I need expensive equipment?
No. A modern phone, decent light and a clip-on microphone are enough. Audio quality matters more than video quality.
How long should my videos be?
As long as the answer needs. Three to eight minutes works for most how-to and explainer content. Shorts under 60 seconds are good for quick tips and discovery. See the YouTube SEO service →
What are YouTube Shorts and should I use them?
Vertical videos under 60 seconds with their own feed. They are the fastest way to reach new viewers and can drive subscribers to your longer content.
How does YouTube decide what to recommend?
Primarily watch time, click-through rate on your thumbnail and title, audience retention and engagement. It rewards videos that keep people watching.
What is a good title?
Specific, front-loads the topic, matches how people search and creates a reason to click. 'How Much Does a Furnace Repair Cost in 2026' beats 'Furnace Tips.' See the YouTube SEO service →
Do keywords in titles matter?
Yes. YouTube search and Google both read titles. Put the primary topic early and keep it natural.
How important is the thumbnail?
Critical. It drives click-through rate, which drives recommendations. Clear face, big readable text, high contrast, no clutter. See the YouTube SEO service →
What goes in the description?
A two-sentence summary with the main keyword, timestamps, links to your website and relevant pages, and your business details. The first lines show in search. See the YouTube SEO service →
Do tags matter?
Marginally. Use a few relevant ones, but title, description, thumbnail and retention matter far more. See the YouTube SEO service →
What are chapters and timestamps?
Labeled sections in your video. They improve navigation, can appear in Google results and help viewers find the answer, which improves retention.
Should I add captions?
Yes. Captions improve accessibility, watch time and searchability. Upload accurate captions instead of relying on auto-generated ones.
What is audience retention?
The percentage of your video people watch. Higher retention tells YouTube the video delivers, and it gets recommended more. Get to the point in the first 15 seconds.
How do I improve retention?
Open with the answer or the promise, cut dead air, use chapters, add visual changes every few seconds and end before you run out of value. See the YouTube SEO service →
What is click-through rate?
The percentage of people who click after seeing your thumbnail and title. It is one of the two biggest signals YouTube uses to decide whether to show your video more.
How often should I post?
Consistency beats volume. One good video a week outperforms five rushed ones. Pick a cadence you can sustain.
Should I post the same video on other platforms?
Yes. Repurpose across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn where appropriate. Each platform is another search surface. See the YouTube SEO service →
Do subscribers matter?
They help, but a small engaged audience beats a large passive one. Focus on views, retention and leads. See the YouTube SEO service →
How do I get more subscribers?
Ask at the point of value, make a clear channel promise, deliver consistently and use end screens pointing to your next video.
What are end screens and cards?
On-video elements that link to other videos, playlists or your site. They keep viewers in your content and extend session time, which YouTube rewards.
Should I create playlists?
Yes. Playlists group related videos, increase watch time and rank in search on their own.
What is a good channel setup?
A clear name, a banner stating what you do and for whom, a trailer, organized playlists, business details and links to your website in the About section. See the YouTube SEO service →
Should I embed videos on my website?
Yes. Embed relevant videos on service and article pages. They increase time on page and give visitors another way to trust you.
Does embedding slow down my site?
It can. I use a click-to-play facade so the heavy YouTube player only loads when someone presses play. Speed stays intact.
What is VideoObject schema?
Structured data describing a video on your page - title, description, thumbnail, duration. It helps Google show video rich results.
Can I rank a video in Google search?
Yes. Google shows videos for many how-to and explainer queries. A well-optimized video on a page with matching content often outranks text-only pages.
How do I find video topics?
Customer questions, YouTube search suggestions, competitor channels, People Also Ask boxes and your own service pages.
Should I show my face on camera?
If you can, yes. Faces build trust and improve click-through. If not, screen recordings, walkthroughs and voiceover with visuals work. See the YouTube SEO service →
How do I handle a video that gets no views?
Check the thumbnail and title first - most dead videos have a click problem, not a content problem. Then check the opening 30 seconds for retention.
Should I delete underperforming videos?
Rarely. Old videos can gain traction later. Improve the title and thumbnail before deleting.
Can I monetize my channel?
Eventually, but for a business the real payoff is leads and trust. Ad revenue is a bonus, not the goal. See the YouTube SEO service →
What is YouTube Studio?
YouTube's dashboard for uploading, editing details and reading analytics. Watch retention, click-through rate and traffic sources monthly.
What analytics matter?
Impressions, click-through rate, average view duration, retention curve, traffic sources and, on your website, leads from video pages.
Should I run YouTube ads?
They can accelerate reach for specific videos, but organic YouTube SEO builds a durable asset. Start organic and add ads deliberately.
Can video help my Google Business Profile?
Yes. You can add videos to your profile, and video content on your site supports the relevance signals that feed Map Pack rankings.
Do I need a script?
A tight outline beats a word-for-word script for most owners. Know your opening line, your three points and your close. See the YouTube SEO service →
How do I look natural on camera?
Talk to one person, not an audience. Record more than you need and cut the stumbles. It gets easier every video.
Can you edit my videos?
I can direct editing and work with editors. My focus is the strategy, optimization and getting the videos found.
Can you set up and optimize my channel?
Yes. Channel structure, branding, descriptions, playlists, video optimization templates and a publishing calendar.
Can you optimize videos I already have?
Yes. Titles, thumbnails, descriptions, chapters, captions and embedding on the right pages. Old videos often have quick wins.
Does YouTube SEO work for B2B?
Very well. Explainers, demos and thought-leadership videos rank in niches with little competition.
What is the biggest YouTube mistake businesses make?
Making videos about themselves instead of answering customer questions, and giving up after five videos with no views.
How long until YouTube works?
Individual videos can rank within weeks. A channel that consistently drives leads typically takes several months of steady publishing.
Does YouTube SEO work with my other SEO?
It is part of it. Video, website, Google Business Profile and AI visibility all reinforce each other.
What does your YouTube SEO service include?
Topic research from real customer questions, channel setup, per-video optimization, thumbnail and title direction, embedding strategy, VideoObject schema and monthly performance review.
How do I get started with YouTube SEO?
Book a strategy call. I will show you the questions your customers are searching on video and what it takes to own them.

GBP Reputation Shield

Your reputation is what customers judge before they ever call. These are the questions about protecting it, building it and using it to rank. See the Reputation service →

What is reputation management?
Systematically earning, monitoring and responding to reviews and mentions so the reputation customers see is accurate, strong and current - and so it feeds your rankings.
Why do reviews matter so much?
They are one of the heaviest local ranking signals, and they are the first thing a customer reads before choosing. Reviews influence both whether you show up and whether you get picked.
How many reviews do I need?
There is no magic number. Steady recent reviews beat a large stale total. Aim for several new reviews every month and a 4.5 or higher rating.
Is a perfect 5.0 rating good?
A flawless 5.0 with hundreds of reviews can look suspicious to customers and Google. A few thoughtful negatives with professional responses make the rest more believable.
How do I ask for reviews?
At the moment of peak satisfaction, in person or by text, with a direct one-tap link. Follow up once. Make it easy and specific. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can I offer incentives for reviews?
No. Discounts, gifts or contests for reviews violate Google's policies and can get reviews stripped or your profile flagged.
What is review gating?
Asking happy customers for public reviews while steering unhappy ones to private feedback. Google prohibits it. Ask everyone the same way.
Should I respond to every review?
Yes, within a couple of days. Responses show you are engaged, and Google reads that activity. See the Reputation Shield service →
How do I respond to a negative review?
Calmly, briefly and factually. Acknowledge, state your side without arguing, offer to resolve offline. Readers judge the response more than the complaint. See the Reputation Shield service →
Should I respond to positive reviews?
Yes. A short specific thank-you reinforces the relationship and adds fresh activity to your profile. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can I remove a negative review?
Only if it violates policy - spam, conflict of interest, off-topic or offensive content. Honest negative reviews stay. Respond well and bury them with fresh positives.
How do I report a fake review?
Flag it from your profile with the reason, respond publicly so readers see your side, and escalate with evidence if it is clearly fraudulent. See the Reputation Shield service →
How long does Google take to remove a fake review?
Days to weeks, and many requests are denied on first attempt. Evidence and persistence matter. See the Reputation Shield service →
What if a competitor leaves fake reviews?
Document patterns, flag each one, respond calmly and, if it is coordinated, escalate. Do not retaliate. See the Reputation Shield service →
Do keywords in reviews help ranking?
Yes. Reviews mentioning your service and city feed relevance and can appear as justification text in results. You cannot script reviews, but you can ask customers to mention what you did.
What is the best way to get reviews that mention services?
Instead of 'please leave a review,' say 'it really helps if you mention what we did and how it went.' Customers naturally include the specifics.
Which platforms matter besides Google?
Facebook, Yelp, industry sites (Healthgrades, Avvo, Houzz, Angi and similar) and the Better Business Bureau. Google matters most for local ranking. See the Reputation Shield service →
Should I respond on other platforms too?
Yes. Customers check multiple sources, and consistency across them builds trust. See the Reputation Shield service →
What is review velocity?
The rate at which new reviews arrive. A steady flow signals an active business, and it outranks a big old pile.
What is a review funnel?
A simple system: ask at the right moment, send a direct link, follow up once, respond to what arrives. Consistency is the whole system. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can I automate review requests?
Yes, with text and email tools tied to job completion. Automation keeps the flow steady; the personal ask keeps the rate high. See the Reputation Shield service →
What is reputation monitoring?
Tracking new reviews and mentions across platforms so you respond fast and catch problems early.
Can old reviews hurt me?
Stale reviews signal an inactive business. Even good ones lose weight over time. Keep the flow going.
What if I have no reviews?
Start today. Ask your last ten happy customers. A handful of recent, specific reviews changes your profile immediately.
What if I have bad reviews from years ago?
Respond professionally even now, then focus on volume. Fresh positive reviews push old ones down and rebalance the rating.
Does responding to reviews affect ranking?
Google states that responding to reviews shows you value customers and can improve visibility. It also drives engagement signals.
Can I show reviews on my website?
Yes, and you should. Real reviews on service pages increase conversion. I embed live review feeds so they stay current.
Does review schema help?
Self-serving review schema on your own business is not eligible for rich results, but showing real reviews on the page still builds trust and content.
What is a review widget?
A live feed of your Google and other reviews displayed on your site. It keeps proof current without manual updates.
How do I handle a review that mentions the wrong business?
Flag it as off-topic with a polite public response noting the mix-up. These are often removed. See the Reputation Shield service →
How do I handle a review from someone who never was a customer?
Respond that you have no record and invite them to contact you, then flag it. Do not accuse publicly. See the Reputation Shield service →
What is the Reputation Shield service?
A managed system: review acquisition, monitoring across platforms, response management, fake review handling, review display on your site and monthly reporting tied to rankings.
Do you write the review responses?
Yes, in your voice, with your approval process if you want one. Fast, professional responses every time. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can you get reviews removed?
When they violate policy, I handle the flagging, evidence and escalation. I will tell you honestly which ones are removable. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can you help with reputation on Yelp?
Yes, within Yelp's stricter rules about soliciting reviews. Monitoring and response management apply.
Does reputation affect AI recommendations?
Yes. AI engines use reviews as both a trust signal and a source of descriptive language. Recent, specific reviews help you get recommended and described accurately.
How do reviews affect conversion?
Heavily. Most customers read reviews before calling and most will not choose a business with a low rating or none at all.
Should I worry about review count or rating more?
Both, but recency and rating come first. A 4.8 with steady recent reviews beats a 4.2 with more.
Can I ask for reviews by text?
Yes. Text has the highest response rate. Keep it short with a direct link. See the Reputation Shield service →
Can I ask for reviews by email?
Yes. Lower response than text, but useful as a follow-up. See the Reputation Shield service →
Should I put a review link on receipts and invoices?
Yes. QR codes and short links on receipts, invoices, vehicles and signage capture reviews at the moment of service.
What is a Google review link?
A direct URL that opens the review form for your profile. Generate it from your Business Profile dashboard and use it everywhere.
Can employees leave reviews?
No. Employee, family and self reviews violate policy and undermine trust.
How do I handle a review dispute with a real customer?
Resolve it offline first. Many customers update or remove reviews after a fair resolution. Never pressure them.
Can reputation management recover a damaged brand?
Yes, over time. Consistent great service plus a steady review flow and professional responses rebuild trust faster than most expect.
How long until reputation work shows results?
New reviews start arriving within weeks of a proper system. Rating and ranking impact builds over two to four months.
Does reputation work help multi-location businesses?
Yes. Reviews attach to individual profiles, so each location needs its own flow. I manage that centrally.
Can you help with online mentions beyond reviews?
Yes. Monitoring news, forums and social mentions and responding where appropriate is part of protecting your brand. See the Reputation Shield service →
What does reporting look like?
Monthly: new reviews, rating trend, response times, platform breakdown, removed fakes and the ranking impact.
How do I get started with reputation management?
Book a strategy call. I will audit your reviews across platforms and show you what is helping, what is hurting and what to do next.

Detailed Analytical Reporting & Data

You should never have to take a ranking claim on faith. These are the questions about how I measure and report what your marketing actually produces. See the Reporting service →

What does your reporting include?
Leads and calls by source, rankings for the terms that convert, Map Pack positions across a geo-grid, Google Business Profile actions, organic traffic and clicks, AI visibility and technical health. All tied to revenue where possible.
How often do I get reports?
Monthly by default, with a video walkthrough explaining what changed and why. Weekly or real-time dashboards are available. See the Reporting service →
What is a video report?
A recorded walkthrough of your numbers in plain language so you understand what is working without decoding a spreadsheet. See the Reporting service →
What metrics actually matter?
Leads and calls from organic search first. Then rankings for terms that convert, Google Business Profile actions, organic clicks and technical health. Rankings without leads are a vanity metric.
What is a vanity metric?
A number that looks good but does not pay you: total keywords ranked, impressions with no clicks, traffic that never converts. I report them for context but never lead with them. See the Reporting service →
How do you track leads?
Call tracking, form tracking and booking tracking tied to the source and page that produced them, so you know which work generates revenue.
What is call tracking?
Numbers that record which source and page produced each call, without breaking your business listing consistency. It is how phone leads get attributed correctly. See the Reporting service →
Does call tracking hurt my Google Business Profile?
Not when configured properly. Your real number stays primary on the profile and the tracking number is added as an additional line.
Why do you rely on Google Search Console for reporting?
Because it is data straight from Google: impressions, clicks, average position, indexing status and technical issues. Third-party tools estimate; Search Console reports what actually happened.
What is Google Analytics?
Google's traffic and behavior tool. I use GA4 to track sessions, sources, conversions and how visitors move through the site. See the Reporting service →
What is a geo-grid rank report?
A map showing your Map Pack position from dozens of points across your service area. Local rankings vary block by block, and the grid shows exactly where visibility fades.
Why do you check rankings from multiple locations?
Because Google personalizes local results by the searcher's exact position. A single rank check tells you almost nothing about what customers across town see. See the Reporting service →
What is AI visibility tracking?
A fixed set of real customer questions run across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity on a schedule, recording whether you are mentioned, cited or absent, and how you compare to named competitors. See the Reporting service →
What is share of voice?
How often you appear versus competitors for the same set of searches or prompts. It is the real scoreboard for competitive markets. See the Reporting service →
Do you report on Google Business Profile performance?
Yes. Calls, direction requests, website clicks, photo views, search terms that surfaced you and review activity. See the Reporting service →
Do you report on technical health?
Yes. Indexing status, Core Web Vitals, crawl errors and broken links, so problems get caught before they cost rankings. See the Reporting service →
Do you report on content performance?
Yes. Which pages and articles earn traffic, rankings, snippets, AI citations and leads. See the Reporting service →
Do you report on reviews?
Yes. New reviews, rating trend, response times and platform breakdown. See the Reporting service →
Can I see my competitors in the report?
Yes. Rankings, Map Pack positions and AI mentions for the competitors you care about, side by side with yours.
Will I get a dashboard?
Yes, a live dashboard is available alongside the monthly report for clients who want to check in anytime. See the Reporting service →
Can you connect my CRM?
Yes. Leads can flow into most CRMs so revenue is tracked end to end.
How do you attribute revenue?
By connecting tracked leads to closed jobs where your systems allow. When exact revenue is not available, I estimate from lead volume and your average job value.
What is conversion rate?
The percentage of visitors who take the action you want - call, form, booking. Improving it multiplies the value of every ranking. See the Reporting service →
Why do you report click-through rate?
Because it shows whether people choose you when they see you. A page can rank well and still lose clicks to a better title. Lifting click-through rate grows traffic with no ranking change. See the Reporting service →
What is an impression?
A time your result was shown in search. Impressions without clicks tell you the title and description need work. See the Reporting service →
What is bounce rate and does it matter?
GA4 replaced it with engagement rate. What matters is whether visitors do something useful. Fast, relevant pages engage; slow, off-target pages do not. See the Reporting service →
What is organic traffic?
Visitors who arrived from unpaid search results. It is the traffic SEO builds and the most durable channel.
Can you separate traffic from Google, Bing and AI engines?
Yes. Sources are segmented, including referrals from ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. See the Reporting service →
How do you report rankings honestly?
Averaged across real locations and devices, tracked for terms that convert, with history so you see trends rather than one lucky snapshot.
Why do my rankings look different when I search?
Google personalizes by location, device and history. Reports use neutral, location-specific checks so the data reflects what customers see.
How long before the data means something?
A month establishes a baseline. Three months shows a trend. Most decisions should be made on trends, not single months. See the Reporting service →
Do you set goals and benchmarks?
Yes. We agree on lead targets and ranking goals up front and measure against them monthly. See the Reporting service →
What if the numbers go down?
I tell you, explain why and show the plan. Down months happen - algorithm updates, seasonality, a technical change. Hiding them is how agencies lose trust. See the Reporting service →
Can you audit another agency's reports?
Yes. I will tell you whether the metrics they show are the ones that matter and whether the results are real.
What is a rank tracker?
Software that checks your positions for chosen keywords on a schedule. I use trackers with local grid capability.
Do you use Google's Looker Studio?
Yes, for dashboards that pull Search Console, Analytics and other sources into one view. See the Reporting service →
Can I get raw data?
Yes. Exports are available for anything in the report. See the Reporting service →
Do you report on paid ads?
If you run them, I include the data for comparison against organic so you can see the true cost per lead by channel.
Do you report on social media?
At a summary level for context. My focus is search, Maps and AI where the measurable leads come from. See the Reporting service →
Can you build custom reports for franchise or multi-location businesses?
Yes. Consolidated views plus per-location detail so both the brand and each owner see what matters. See the Reporting service →
Can you report to my leadership team?
Yes. Executive summaries in plain language with the numbers that drive decisions. See the Reporting service →
What is a baseline audit?
The starting snapshot of rankings, visibility, traffic, leads and technical health before work begins, so progress is measured against reality. See the Reporting service →
How do you measure Map Pack improvement?
Geo-grid position changes over time, Google Business Profile actions and calls attributed to Maps.
How do you measure AI visibility improvement?
Prompt-by-prompt mention and citation history, share of voice against competitors and AI referral traffic. See the Reporting service →
How do you measure content ROI?
Traffic, rankings, snippets and AI citations per page, connected to the leads those pages produce. See the Reporting service →
Is my data private?
Yes. Your data is used only for your reporting and never shared.
Can reporting be added to any service?
It is included with every engagement. Standalone reporting and measurement setup are also available.
What is the biggest reporting mistake agencies make?
Leading with vanity metrics and never connecting work to revenue. If a report cannot tell you what you earned, it is a brochure.
Why is transparency so important to you?
Because the industry earned its reputation. I would rather show you a down month honestly than hide it. That is how clients stay for years. See the Reporting service →
